Old Colorado City
Carnegie Library Campaign
Preserving a 1904 Treasure - Pikes Peak Library District
THANK YOU! We reached our goal of $1.2 million and
completed the preservation and modernization of the Branch.
Library roots run deep on the Westside: the first library in Colorado
City was established in 1895. In December 1904 – with a $10,000 grant
from Andrew Carnegie – the Colorado City Library opened its doors to
the public. The Colorado Springs Evening Telegraph newspaper
called it the “Pride of Colorado City.”
The library remains an
important and vital part of the Westside community, but after 100
years of continuous library service, it is in need of
repairs and preservation and needs your help. In March 2003, a
fund-raising campaign was started with a $1.2 million goal. The money
will ensure that structural repairs are done so that the library will
be able to meet the needs of a 21st century clientele,
while remaining true to it historic roots.
