Barnes & Noble Bookfair will Help Support All Pikes Peak Reads at the Library

Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 8, 2011) – Barnes & Noble’s Bookfairs help our community by donating a percentage of their profits on certain days to support local nonprofits and literacy organizations. Pikes Peak Library District’s bookfair runs from August 5 - 10 with special events at Barnes & Noble’s 1565 Briargate Boulevard location on August 5 and 6. Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) Foundation will receive a percentage of all sales on these days; all you have to do is tell B&N staff that you’d like whatever items you purchase to help benefit PPLD! Money raised during these six days will go toward supporting PPLD’s All Pikes Peak Reads program, a community-wide effort to improve literacy and foster dialogue across social, cultural, and generational lines. Author visits, art exhibits, book discussion groups, children’s programs, film screenings, and other APPR-themed events will be offered at PPLD and other community sites this fall as part of APPR.

A little extra incentive for teens
Pikes Peak Library District’s Video Center will be at Barnes & Noble’s Bookfair on August 5 from 5 - 7 p.m., ready to interview any teens who would like to talk about what they like best about The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, one of this year’s APPR selections. The filmed testimonials will receive promotion on PPLD.TV, the All Pikes Peak Reads website, and possibly even appear on local television and other media outlets.

On August 6, PPLD’s Video Crew will be at B&N from 5 - 7 p.m. again, this time filming folks of any age brave enough to try spelling a difficult word. This footage will be used to help promote the District’s annual corporate spelling bee, Spellabration, a fast-paced, fun-filled event that pits up to 10 three-person teams against each other for top honors. Spellabration raises funds for the Library’s Adult Literacy program.
