"Doctors, Disease, and Dying" Book Release at Pikes Peak Library District


Pikes Peak Library District’s Special Collections department will release the Regional History Series book Doctors, Disease, and Dying in the Pikes Peak Region on Thursday, November 15 in the 1905 Carnegie Reading Room at Penrose Library. The featured entertainment is a readers theater presentation of a play, “The Widow’s Herd,” written by John Stansfield and based on a story by Dr. Charles Fox Gardiner. The play is also published in the book and Stansfield will perform the role of Gardiner. PPLD staff will perform the other roles. The performance will emulate a radio show, similar to Prairie Home Companion. A book signing and refreshments will be served following the event. The book will retail for $24.95, but will be available at the release event for 15% off. No reservations are required for this event.
