September is a serendipitous season for Pikes Peak Library District. Circus Chimera is coming to Colorado Springs to present a special production of Alice in Wonderland under the big top on September 28, 29, 30, and October 1. Beautiful weather and live performances made the Saturday, September 24 kick-off party for All Pikes Peak Reads the best yet in the program’s five year history. More than 1,000 people attended to play flamingo croquet and see live jazz by the Colorado Springs Conservatory, a skit by Manitou Art Theater, 14-foot Jabberwocky puppets courtesy of Razzamataz Productions, and a finale by the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony and Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale.

More than 120 people attended the Execs Breakfast at the Antlers Hilton on Wednesday, September 20. Executive Director Paula Miller gave a presentation on business lessons based on characters from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. She was joined by East Library’s Suzy Lewis, who dressed as the White Rabbit and kept the crowd entertained. PPLD distributed copies of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to all attendees. |

All Pikes Peak Reads kicks off its fifth year on Sunday, September 24 at Acacia Park downtown (225 N. Nevada Ave.). This year’s book selection is Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, a classic work that has been read and discussed by millions of whimsy lovers since its publication in 1865. Fall down the rabbit hole with us at Acacia Park, where we’ll have costumed characters, giveways, games for kids of all ages, and live performances by Colorado Springs Conservatory, Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, Colorado Springs Youth Symphony, Manitou Art Theater, and Razzamataz. |

On Saturday, August 26 more than 550 people attended the opening of a new city park - Ye Olde Castlewood Park - designed with thematic elements from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. 250 free copies of the book were given to children who attended the event, in addition to lots of free games, food, and fun featuring costumed characters like the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, the White Rabbit, and of course, Alice. |
