PPLD kicks off 2nd Annual World Music Series in June

World Music Series presents Les Yeux Noirs
Pikes Peak Library District’s World Music Series offers world-class cultural experiences in your own backyard. This concert is free and will feature Les Yeux Noirs (Black Eyes). For twelve years, this Paris-based sextet led by two violin-playing brothers has been creating some of the most rhythmic and emotional music emanating from any part of the world. Part gypsy, part klezmer, part rock ‘n’ roll, with each frenetic stroke of their bows they take the listener further into a dizzying vortex of Central European sounds and images. Both joyous and nostalgic, this nomadic music perfectly reflects the lives of a persecuted people in exile, caught up in a massive Diaspora, all with an unshakeable will to live.

The 2006 World Music Series is sponsored by Colorado College, Bee Vradenburg Foundation, and Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado. Call 531-6333, x1234 for more information.

This concert is free and no tickets are required!

Saturday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Outdoor concert at Armstrong Quad
14 E. Cache La Poudre

Briargate Branch Photography Exhibit: A View Through A Lens

The Briargate Branch and The Gazette are sponsoring a photo essay project for students at Liberty High School and Pine Creek High School. Selected photographs from the project will be on display in the Briargate Branch from June 3, 2006 to July 31, 2006.

Christian Murdock, photo editor with The Gazette, and an experienced news and nature photographer, has been meeting with the participants since February. He has helped the students select topics that are of interest to them but also newsworthy. He has provided instruction on photography techniques as well as ideas on how to create an interesting and informative photo essay.

The Gazette will publish works of some of the students in the June 3, 2006 edition, including portraits, bios, and comments from the students about the significance of the project. Also, all the photo essays along with portraits and bios of the students will be published on The Gazette’s website.

The Briargate Branch will host a reception on Saturday June 3, 2006 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Mr. Murdock will be in attendance and available to discuss the project.

Join us for refreshments and meet with the participants in this very special project!
