In this film experience the lives of three Afgan women through a journey of the last 30 years of Afganistan’s history. With courage, conviction, and hope, they work to improve the lives of people around them.

Dr. Abeer Ibrahim, UCCS visiting professor and specialist in gender and Islam, will be facilitating the film discussion afterwards.

PPLD World Music Series Presents – Huun Huur Tu

Pikes Peak Library District World Music Series is proud to present the extrodinary sounds of Huun Huur Tu.

Huun Huur Tu has emerged as the foremost international representative of Tuva’s remarkable musical culture. Tuvans transform the sounds of the natural world into music through imitation, creating sonic maps of physical landscapes that are expressed in texted songs, throat-singing, whistling, and other types of vocal production.

Join us this Saturday night, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. for a free concert at Shove Chapel, 1010 N. Nevada Ave.

TumbleBooks are here!
TumbleBook Library
is an online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach young children the joys of reading in a format they’ll love. TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.

Kids can listen to or read TumbleBooks with a simple click from any computer at the library or at home. The link is located on the Kids Web page. In addition to Story Books and Audio Books, there’s a Life Learning section which teach kids and their parents about important social and health issues, in a fun, educational manner. There is also a Puzzles and Games section that includes beginning literacy skills. You can view books in English, French, Spanish or Chinese. Check it out!!

Monument and Palmer Lake Stories in the Dark

Monument and Palmer Lake Stories in the Dark Get spooked for the season! Creepy characters tell scary stories by candlelight. Families are welcome, but are forewarned! It is recommended that listeners be eight and older and VERY BRAVE!

2006 Adult Reading Program kicks off today!

2006 Adult Reading Program How to Play:

  • Feed Your Need to Read runs October 23 through December 18, 2006.
  • Open to anyone age 18 and older.
  • Read any 8 books of your choice. Books on CD, Audiocassette, Playaways, eBooks and eAudios count, too.
  • After you read your first 4 books, visit the Library to pick up a prize.
  • Read 4 more books and visit the Library again to pick up a second prize.
  • If you read 8 books by December 18, you will be entered in the Grand Prize Drawings!.
  • You can register online with your PPLD library card, then visit the Library to turn in your Reading Log and pick up prizes!

    Alice’s Wonderland by Night

    Old Colorado City Carnegie Library Campaign presents Alice's Wonderland by Night Celebrate your love of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and contribute to a good cause. Join us for a trip through the looking glass, and a magical evening of epicurean delights, wine tasting, live jazz, and a live and silent auction.

    Alice’s Wonderland by Night will take place at the Broadmoor Bank on 155 Lake Ave. on Saturday, October 21, from 7-10 p.m.

    All proceeds will benefit the Old Colorado City Carnegie Library Campaign.
