Fountain Valley History Nights @ Fountain Branch

Come see mass destruction, mayhem and maybe murder at the Fountain Branch Library!

The Fountain Branch is starting a series on significant historical events, people, and places of the Fountain Valley. The one hour sessions will be the third Thursday of the month, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

This month, on September 20, they will be looking at archival photos and original newspaper articles documenting the great train explosion of May, 1888. The then existing township of Fountain was nearly destroyed, and the sound of the explosion was clearly heard and felt as far away as Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

Fountain Valley History Nights @ Fountain Branch

People with related stories or information are encouraged to attend and share with others. The evenings should be a casual way to re-experience some of Fountain’s rich history.

The library is located at 230 S. Main St, Fountain, Colorado. Call 382-5347 if you have questions.

Old Colorado City Branch Construction Update

Old Colorado City Construction - hardwood floors

Construction at the Old Colorado City Branch is really beginning to change the appearance of the library. Plastering is almost finished, and the floors are being stripped. Everyone is amazed and how wonderful all of the woodwork looks, but who knew what beauty was hidden under the carpet. The wood floor was in much better shape that anyone expected, and will look “new” when we reopen.
