Briagate Bookcart Wins 3rd Place in Contest!

We reported earlier that the Briargate Branch had entered a bookcart into the Unshelved Pimp My Bookcart contest. Well, the results are in and their bookcart tied for 3rd place out of 129 entries!

According to the judges:

[It] was a down-and-out bookcart, literally consigned to a dumpster, when the Briargate Branch librarians heard about our contest. They retrieved it and carefully applied custom aged-wood panelling, then photographed it perfectly. They win twin $50 gift certificates from Highsmith and the Unshelved Store and a complete set of Unshelved books.

Congratulations Briargate!

David Calley, Co-founder and President, Southwest Windpower

Thursday, November 15, 2007, 7:30 p.m.
Shove Memorial Chapel, 1010 N. Nevada Ave.

Free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Innovative Minds Lecture Series at Colorado College.

A Natural Tinkerer Changes the World Around Him

Dave Calley made his first rudimentary wind generator when he was 12 years old, using it to power his tape deck so he could listen to music in his bedroom. When Dave Calley and Andy Kruse founded Southwest Windpower in 1987, their first product was a 300-watt wind generator made from a modified Ford alternator. Today, Southwest Windpower is the world’s largest producer of small wind generators, with $10 million in revenues last year. For 20 years, Calley has been providing affordable small wind-converter power to many parts of the world that have never had electricity. His company helps reduce pollution and oil dependence, as well as costs, for those who are already “on the grid.” Come hear how their business and social mission shaped the company.

Members of the public may call (719) 389-6607 for disability accommodation, additional information or directions.
