Long before silent movies, radio, and television, rural Americans relied on the Chautauqua stage for their entertainment. By the late 19th century over 400 permanent Chautauqua assemblies were established, including one at Glen Park in Palmer Lake. The fascinating history of our local Chautauqua which attracted national speakers, teachers, musicians, and preachers to our community is brought to life in this film.

Request for Art Show Entries- Fountain Creek Nature Center

Fountain Creek Nature Center announces its second Art Show & Sale on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. celebrating El Paso County Parks, Trails & Open Spaces. Artists interested in submitting entries should contact Nancy Bernard at nancybernard@elpasoco.com. The theme is “Nature-scapes” of El Paso County Parks, but other related work will be considered. All media is welcome. Entries should be submitted in jpg form by August 1, 2008. In 1993, Peggy and Clarence Shivers established the Shivers Fund and African-American Historical and Cultural Collection at PPLD. Through the Fund the Shivers have brought visual and performing arts from around the country to the Pikes Peak region, and have encouraged the appreciation and talents of youth in the arts.
