Some Like it Hot
Some Like it Hot, whirls through the flamboyant settings of Chicago and Miami Beach in 1929. Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe) is a ukulele-playing vocalist in an all-girl band. Two musicians (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon) on the run from the mob, join Sugar’s traveling troupe by hilariously donning make-up and dresses to hide their identity.

Shakespeare in Love
Shakespeare, a struggling young playwright, suffers writer’s block in this witty, romantic comedy set in London in 1593. When he falls instantly in love with the startlingly beautiful Viola, his creative powers are unleashed as Romeo and Juliet, one of the greatest and most tragic love stories of all time.

That’s Entertainment
Hosted by some of MGM’s greatest stars, That’s Entertainment is a nostalgic collection of scenes from nearly 100 musical films. Mixed in with the more famous highlights are unexpected, but equally delightful sequences including a “challenge” dance between Eleanor Powell and Fred Astaire, and a clip featuring a singing and dancing Clark Gable.

Sand Creek Branch to close for renovation, expansion

The Sand Creek Branch’s temporary location will close at 6 p.m. on February 18 for the final stage of renovation. It will reopen on March 21. During its closure, all holds will be routed to the Ruth Holley Branch.

The remodeled library, located at 1821 S. Academy Blvd., will open with a large, open floor plan that better accommodates the needs of its patrons. The area that has served as a temporary branch will become an 800-square-foot quiet reading room. Separate rooms have been carved out for teens and children, creating a more inviting space for youth. In all, the library gained an additional 4,000 square feet by utilizing storage space within the existing building and remodeling it for public use.
