Multicultural Celebration at Briargate!

Celebrating Diversity through Stories!

Multicultural Celebration at Briargate BranchCome to the Briargate Branch for a storytelling celebration on Saturday, August 22 at 1:30 p.m.

There will 4 storytellers with stories from India, Africa, the American West and England. PPLD’s own Heather Lyle will be one of the storytellers. Danyda Feldman, also known as Talespinner, will tell a traditional story from her native England. Visa, a native of India, will tell a traditional Indian tale. Briargate Branch employee Karen Jenista and her husband, Jim, will tell a tale of the American West.

These stories are suitable for all ages so bring the entire family! Stay for more cultural diversity with a variety of crafts for kids. We’ll have an oragami project and the Ojo de Dios.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Frank McCourt, passes away

Angela's AshesAuthor Frank McCourt passed away on July 19. He was 78 years old. Mr. McCourt is most famous for writing the memoir Angela’s Ashes, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Pulitzer Prize in 1997.

End od Summer Rock Band Gaming DayHey teens, bring your friends and get your Rock Band on with an afternoon of fun and food!

Forte concert at Carnegie Garden is a resounding success!

Forte, a handbell quartet of the Pikes Peak Ringers, played at the Carnegie Garden on July 7, to resounding success!

This concert was part of Carnegie Garden’s Season Opening Events, which are running throughout the summer. All events are FREE and located at the Carnegie Garden, adjacent to the Penrose Library.

La Fanfare du Belgistan coming to Colorado College for World Music Series 2009

La Fanfare du BelgistanWorld Music Series 2009 continues on at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 17 at Colorado College’s Armstrong Quad. (Armstrong Theater is the rain backup venue.) Come enjoy La Fanfare du Belgistan’s unique sound at this free event.

World Music Series 2009Hailing from the fictional Belgistan region of Eastern Belgium, their tantalizing music incorporates a variety of classic and exotic instruments, from trumpets to karbakas. Inspired by Arab and Gypsy music, La Fanfare updates traditional forms by fusing them with elements of trance, dance, and jazz music. The show is presented by PPLD, Colorado College, and KRCC Concerts. You can listen to a couple of their songs below.
