Teen/Tween MAKER Thursdays

When: Thursday, August 25, 2016 - 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

Every second and fourth Thursday of each month, we will MAKE something in the East Makerspace.

This week, we'll be making puzzles!

Ages 9 - 18 only. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by a parent. Both parties must register.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Drawing and Painting Creativity Group

Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make (Clean Maker Space)

Bring your creativity to this monthly gathering. Bring whatever project you are working on and work in a group setting. Local artist and instructor Deb Ross will be on hand to help inspire. Supplies will not be provided. Registration is not required.

Speak German

Device/Computer Help Drop-in Lab

Where: Penrose Library - 20 North Cascade at Penrose Bay Area

For patrons with specific trouble shooting needs or help beyond the materials covered in other library computer classes. If the user just needs beginner instruction, sign them up for computer basics, internet basics, word, etc. Remind the patron to bring their device to the appointment if possible.

Yoga at the Library

Join me for a creative, Vinyasa yoga flow that is approachable for all levels and ages. I am passionate about breathing, aligning and moving the body the way it's intended to move, with ease, grace and space. In this practice, you will be allowed that safe space to move like yourself through yoga asanas (postures) and develop balance, flexibility, and deep core strength. Uplift and strengthen your mind, body and spirit! Please bring a mat if you have one and I will bring a couple extra as well.

Photo-Editing with GIMP

Learn to edit your photos without paying the hefty price tag for professional software like Photoshop or Corel. GIMP is a free downloadable software you can use at home to accomplish most of your photo-editing needs.

In this class, we'll teach you the basics of how to adjust the lighting in your pictures, crop out unnecessary parts, remove red-eye, edit the foreground and background elements, and more.

This class is for advanced computer users who are very comfortable with computer navigation and have experience using a variety of software including Microsoft Office products. Best suited for students 13+; Ages 9-12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Seed Library Event: Seed Saving

This class will cover the basics of saving seeds from the most popular garden vegtables. Topics include how to plan your garden for seed saving, the difference between heirloom and hybrid, understanding distances and techniques for proper isolation to prevent cross breeding,the best ways to store seeds and best choices for beginners to start with.

Wildfire Mitigation Tips with CSFD

Where: Rockrimmon Library - 832 Village Center Drive at Rockrimmon Meeting Room

Join the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) for an informational session on ways to prepare your home and yard for wildfire season—this presentation will benefit both newcomers and established residents alike. Participants will also learn about the other services offered by CSFD like the neighborhood chipping program and on-site consultations.

Make II Open Hours

When: Saturday, August 27, 2016 - 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make II (Messy Maker Space)

During Open Hours, Make II is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis. Patrons must be badged to use a machine during a separate appointment before being able to use the machines in open hours. To inquire about badging, please call 719-884-9800, x 6364.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. 9-11 year olds must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

Maker in Residence: The Playful Pen

Where: Rockrimmon Library - 832 Village Center Drive at Rockrimmon Meeting Room

Subtract color and what do you have? Let's explore detail with fine-tipped pens. Let's venture into the realm of black and white. Open-themed, models provided, beginners welcome.

The program will be limited to ages 16+ for 12 patrons. Registration required.

Try something new in this series of messy outside art classes! Learn a bit about science as you create art with paint and fumes instead of paintbrushes! Supplies will be provided. Expect to get messy. Patrons must be at least 18 years old to attend.

Laser Cutter / Engraver Badging Class

Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make II (Messy Maker Space)

Group badging for the Laser Cutter/ Engraver. After this training patrons will be "badged" to use the Laser Cutter/ Engraver during Open Hours.
