Hi there. Thanks for the suggestion. We have so much on the home page already, but maybe we can make a slide that links to the Calendar. Good idea!

I think it would be cool if you guys created a kindergarten readiness class for kids ages 4-5 for 1 hour a week that introduces kids going to kindergarten to ABC's, counting and writing (example: a new letter and number each week with fun stories, games and songs that helps kids get ready for school in a fun way so they are more prepared and can meet other kids their age.) Going to kindergarten can be pretty scary for kids especially if they aren't enrolled in a preschool program.

Thank you for writing! Our preschool storytimes, offered at each of our libraries, feature these skills in a more subtle way. Also, since preparing for Kindergarten really begins at birth, PPLD is part of a Public Library Association initiative that has been going on for about 15 years, called “Every Child Ready to Read.” The program stresses 5 practices that parents can do to help their children get ready for reading and school. They are “Read,” “Write,” “Talk,” “Sing” and “Play.” Every year (usually January and February) we do a series of Countdown to Kindergarten Carnivals featuring these practices, with handouts describing other activities that parents can do at home. Also, if you click here there are literacy activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers featured in the slideshow. Thank you for your idea - we will keep it in mind, and please let me know if you have any further questions.

I'd love more options for Music and Movement at the Penrose, Manitou, or OCC libraries!

This fun program for 2 and 3 year olds is really growing in popularity throughout the library district.
Starting Sept. 20, the Old Colorado City Library will again be offering Music and Movement the first and third Tuesdays at 2:00.
In addition, starting Sept. 2, Penrose Library will have Music and Movement every Friday at 10:30.
Another option is an all ages music program at Manitou Springs Library the third Thursday of the month at 10:30.
We hope to see you at one of these programs!

I would like to see more activities starting around 5 pm or later. I work and my kids are in school until 4-4:30. Thank you.
I enjoy the Science/STEM classes for each of my two children's different age groups.

I second this request. If activities start at 5 or 5:15 we would be able to participate with our school aged children as well.

Thank you for your comment. We are continually examining our programs to evaluate whether we meet the needs of our patrons, and we have added tween and STEM programs at most of our libraries. If you let me know which libraries you are interested in, I can give you more information. Thank you!

Hello. We are down in Security so probably the closest libraries are Sand Creek or Fountain. We do drive to various libraries throughout the city if something interests us. I have a 4 year old and a 9 year old. Out at High Plains they used to do a STEM class for each. We enjoyed those very much. Thank you.

Thank you for writing. We will definitely keep your request in mind as we plan our future programs.

Hello,
Thank you for your request. Our school age programs are usually scheduled for either after school or weekends, although not as late in the afternoon as you suggest. Unfortunately, we have not had a good turnout for evening programs for school age children. We have been adding more Science/STEM programs and Make programs. Can you tell me which library you are interested in, and I could give you more information?

Hi there,
Just wondering if any of the libraries will offer more options for babies (6months-1year) or if it is appropriate to bring children under one to some of the story time sessions?

Thank you,

Thank you for your input. We currently offer Babytime for ages 12 months and under at the East Library, Library 21c and Fountain Library. We also offer a Baby and Me Yoga class at Library 21c on the second Saturday of each month. We would certainly offer at any other library that has a demand.
