Makerspaces

PPLD has two makerspaces: Make and Make II at Library 21c and MAKE @ East.

What is a Makerspace?

The PPLD makerspaces were established to promote creativity, ingenuity, and entrepreneurship. This space supports lifelong learning and realization of ideas in a new way through technology and hands-on fabrication.

MAKE @ East Open Hours

When: Monday, May 01, 2017 - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

During Open Hours MAKE @ East is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a trained PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

Learn to Sew - Table Runners

When: Monday, May 01, 2017 - 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

Students will learn to sew a table runner while working on the
fundamentals of sewing. Basic knowledge of sewing notions
and how to use a sewing machine are required.
Upon registration, students will be given a supply list for class.
For ages 18 and up. Space is limited.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

PPCC Illustrator 2 class

Maker Monday: Make Music

When: Monday, May 01, 2017 - 6:00 PM - 8:45 PM
Where: Sand Creek Library - 1821 South Academy Blvd. at Sand Creek Meeting Room

Use the library's equipment and instruments to Make Music. Ages 12 and under must be with an adult.

Make II Open Hours

During Open Hours, Make II is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis. Patrons must be badged to use a machine during a separate appointment before being able to use the machines in open hours. To inquire about badging, please call 719-884-9800, x 6364.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. 9-11 year olds must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

Simple Circuit Open Lab

Learn simple circuits using a variety of circuit kits. No registration necessary.

Coloring for Adults

Join us once a month for coloring and light conversation. Pages and coloring utensils will be provided, but you are also encouraged to share what you have worked on. No registration is necessary. Program for patrons 18+.

Come visit with our current Maker in Residence, Barbara, and talk with her about fusion collage while she works on her project.

Knit One & Crochet Too!

Bring a project to work on, share ideas, and socialize with fellow knitters and crocheters. No registration required.

Studio 21c Orientation Class

Where: Library21c Special Rooms-1175 Chapel Hills Drive at The Studio

Interested in using Studio 21c’s innovative new C3 Center for Public Media? Whether you’re creating your first masterpiece or are a seasoned professional, Library 21c's Audio/Video Studio offers the tools to produce original content for television, radio and the web.

This Orientation course guides patrons through studio policies and procedures while serving as the first step toward using the facility for independent projects. After taking this course, patrons are also eligible to register for a variety of classes to learn audio and video skills.
 
This course is required training to use the C3 Center for Public Media. Attendees under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please register EACH family member who will be attending. PLEASE ENTER YOUR LIBRARY CARD NUMBER IN THE "NOTES" FIELD BELOW. Limit 25 per class.

Amateur Hour Painting Party!

It’s time for a painting party! Amateur artists are invited to experiment with watercolors and acrylics at this fun and informal program. We’ll supply the brushes, paint, and paper; just bring yourself and a friend!

Ages 16 and up.

Studio 21c Camera and Lighting Class

When: Thursday, May 04, 2017 - 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Where: Library21c Special Rooms-1175 Chapel Hills Drive at The Studio

Prerequisite: Studio Orientation class. Basic introduction to the studio cameras and lights. Completion of course will allow you access to studio equipment and camera check-out. Course lasts approximately 3 hrs. Patrons 9-13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Who Gives a SCRAP Program and Swap

Who Gives a SCRAP will host a swap and program to highlight how to be mindful of saving everything because everything can be used!
More information to come. It is free to attend. Bring your unused and unwanted scrap craft material and exchange them for "tickets" to "purchase" new-to-you craft supplies!

Calligraphy Basics

When: Saturday, May 06, 2017 - 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

This introductory program will cover the various elements of calligraphy, with examples being provided for each of the two hands. Right- and left-handed attendees are both welcome!

Topics included will cover:
• calligraphy terminology
• how to set up a work area
• proper nib preparation
• pros and cons of the pointed pen and chisel edged pen
• how to hold a pen (it varies, based on the nib!)
• the best inks, gouache, acrylics and water colors for pointed and chisel edged pens
• the different papers and how they react to the pen and ink
• how to line your paper for the different sized nibs and the different slants.
• how to make letter forms with each of the different pens

Ages 16 and up. Registration is required.

Maker in Residence - Fiber Fusion Collage

When: Saturday, May 06, 2017 - 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Where: Sand Creek Library - 1821 South Academy Blvd. at Sand Creek Meeting Room

In this out of the box workshop, we will create heat fused fibrous collages from likely and unlikely materials. Collages can be attached to each other to make bigger pieces, as well. Learn what the secret adherent is. Colorants such a chalk and spray mists are also applied to finished pieces. All materials are supplied.For ages 16+

Quilting Meet-up

When: Sunday, May 07, 2017 - 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make (Clean Maker Space)

Come join this social group to work on quilts, talk about quilts, and share what quilts you have been working on. This is a drop in club intended to gather together beginning and advanced quilters in a social setting. Registration is not required. A Makerspace use agreement needs to be on file.

Video Editing Basics Using Adobe Premiere

When: Monday, May 08, 2017 - 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Petritz Learning Lab

For those new to video editing, this introductory editing class will get you up and running with Adobe Premiere CC. We will cover a range of topics from navigating the interface, importing assets, working with sequences and timelines, applying titles and effects, and exporting your finished edit.

Patrons 9 - 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
