Executive Director Paula Miller: Biography
Pikes Peak Library District Executive Director Paula Miller has been working in libraries since she was sixteen, and has loved every minute of it. Paula chose to work in libraries not only because of a life-long love of books and reading, but more importantly because of her belief in the significant role the public library plays in the community and in the opportunities public libraries provide to impact individual lives. Paula says that a good library contributes to the quality of life in every community. She fosters the involvement of Pikes Peak Library District as a vital part of the Pikes Peak Region, providing free access to information and resources for every member of the community, encouraging literacy and learning for all ages, and serving as a gracious space for community gatherings.
The Pikes Peak Library District Board of Trustees hired Paula as Executive Director in early 2006. She has over 30 years experience working in libraries, previously having served as Director of Westlake Porter Public Library (Ohio), Administrative Coordinator of Kent Free Library (Ohio), Director of the Dover Public Library (Delaware) and Administrator of Eastern Shore Regional Library (Maryland).
Paula has a Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University, and a Masters degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Maryland.
Paula’s belief in the importance of community is evidenced by her involvement. She serves on the boards of the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, Colorado College’s Business and Community Alliance, and the Colorado Springs Diversity Forum. She is involved in the Pikes Peak Region Quality of Life Indicators Education Vision Council and the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project, and is an alumna of the Colorado Springs Leadership Institute, Colorado Springs Citizen’s Academy, and the Partnership for Community Design.
Libraries are changing rapidly, and Paula is dedicated to keeping the Pikes Peak Library District responsive to future technologies and the evolving needs of library patrons. As library technologies and materials depart from traditional models and move into the realm of the “eworld”, Paula seeks to ensure that Pikes Peak Library District patrons are not left behind.
Paula, her husband, and the youngest of their three sons are thankful to live in the beautiful Pikes Peak Region and happy to call Colorado Springs their home.
