Authors and Writing for Children

* Author Name Pronunciation Guide @ TeachingBooks.net - Hear authors and illustrators introduce themselves. It's always good to have them pronounce their own name.
* Internet Public Library Reading Zone - A directory of author resources and sites devoted to well-loved books.
* Pronouncing Dictionary of Authors' Names - Authors are presented in alphabetical order, with an example of their work included.
* Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators - SCBWI offers a variety of services to people who write, illustrate, or share a vital interest in children's literature. A subscription is required to use most of the site.
* The Purple Crayon, A Children's Book Editor's Site - Harold Underdown includes useful articles, mostly for writers and illustrators and selected links to online resources.
* Write4Kids.com - A great site for those interested in writing a children's book.

Award Books

* Colorado Children's Book Award - The Colorado Children's Book Award announces their 2007 winners and 2008 nominations.
* Database of Award-Winning Children's Lit - Search for books by award or by many other options. Make your own reading list.
* Reading Rockets - This is an easy-to-use collection of annual best children's books lists. Included lists: The New York Times, International Reading Assoc., Newbery and Caldecott winners.

Book Lists

* BookHive - The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County presents this wonderful, helpful site. Make your own booklist or find booklists on various subjects from babies on up to adults.
* Children's Booklists on the Web - This is a guide to theme-related bibliographies of recommended books.
* Mona Kerby's…The Reading Corner - This site includes lengthy book lists in 9 general categories with annotations.
* PlanetEsme.com - This site "exists with the goal of getting great children's books into the hands of great children." Scroll down to look at a list of reading recommendations.
* Publishers Weekly Children's Bestseller List - Lists children's bestsellers for the current month. Go to the Bestsellers by Category box down on the right side of the page and click on a children's category.
* Reading Rockets - This site offers book lists for infants through age nine on many popular themes.
* Teacher Book Wizard @ Scholastic.com - Find just the right book. Search by author, title, keyword or customize your search. This site also has a good "Bookalike" feature so that you can find similar books.

* Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books - This is an online version of one of the leading children's book review journals for school and public librarians. The archive feature includes past features and award-winning books and authors from 1997-2000.
* Notes from the Horn Book - This is a new monthly electronic newsletter for parents and others looking for good new books for children and teenagers. Brought to us by the editors of The Horn Book.

Children's Literature Supersites

* Children's Book Council - This site presents information of interest to both teachers and librarians.
* Internet Public Library - Includes several sections which relate to youth services and children's literature. Librarians, school librarians, teachers, and parents can all benefit from the information found here.
* The Children's Literature Web Guide - This is the University of Calgary's guide to internet resources related to books for children and young adults.
* The Internet School Library Media Center - This children's literature and language arts site focuses on children's lit in education.

Issues and Study of Children's Literature

* Fairrosa Cyber Library - Several sections may include study issues for children's literature students.
* Guys Read - This is a great site by author Jon Scieszka that helps guys of all ages find good books to read.
* Kay Vandergrift's Children's Literature - This library school professor shares her analysis of children's literature.
* Picturing Books - This is a very thorough directory and information site for students of picture books.
* SurLaLune Faire Tale Pages - Includes most of the familiar tales, their histories, similar tales from other cultures, bibliographies, and other material.
