Manitou Teen Creative Writer's Group

Looking for support and feedback from other writer's? Do you want to explore new structures and techniques in your writing? Would you like to try writing some poetry or give memoir writing a shot? Drop in and play with a fun writing prompt, or bring something you are already working on! This group offers 12-18 year old writers a chance to grow as writers and help others do the same.

Knitting Kninjas

All Pikes Peak Reads: Career Conversations Medical Field

Professionals from different career fields break it down for teens in a panel discussion that explores the ups and downs of their occupations. Each month will feature a different career path group. September explores professionals working in the medical field. Registration Required.

DIY Garden Stepping Stone

When: Friday, September 02, 2016 - 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make (Clean Maker Space)

Learn how to make your own mosaic garden stepping stone and bring your creation home with you! All materials will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring any pieces of glass or ceramic pieces that you would like to use.
This class will meet on Friday, September 2nd to lay tiles and set the cement, and on Friday, September 9th to complete the stone after the cement has set. You are signing up for both days when you sign up for September 2nd.

MAKE @ East Open Hours

During Open Hours MAKE @ East is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a trained PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis.

Illustration and Character Design at Ruth Holley

Join us for an afternoon of character design. Use our high-end digital drawing tablets, pen and paper or even sculpting clay and materialize a character from the story you've had locked up in your head. We'll discuss and draw inspiration from some of the most famous illustrated characters of all time. Registration is required.

APPR: Teens/Tweens Learn to Sew

Every second and fourth Thursday of each month, we will MAKE something in the East Makerspace.

This week, we'll make a tote bag in which to keep our stories! Walk out of the library with your books in a bag you made.

Ages 9 - 18 only. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by a parent. Both parties must register.

APPR Teen Movie Project

When: Thursday, September 08, 2016 - 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Where: Old Colorado City Library - 2418 West Pikes Peak at Old Colorado City Meeting Room

Have you ever wanted to make your own movie? Here's your chance!

Teens will meet once per week to plan, film, and edit their film throughout September and October. Please see below for dates, times, and activities.

Week One - September 8
Time to meet the team! During this session, we'll introduce ourselves and begin to talk about the project. Discussion will include plot, filming locations, scripts, etc.

Week Two - September 15
Scripting and Blocking. Teens will develop a script for their project to assist in the filming process.

Week Three - September 22
Filming begins! Taking the ideas from the first session, we'll begin filming.

Week Four - September 29
Filming Continues.

Week Five - October 6
Last week of filming. We'll continue filming this week, getting our last shots in.

Week Six - October 13
Editing. Time to bring everything together with editing software. Teens will get the chance to edit their film and learn a little about the editing software available from PPLD.

Week Seven - October 20
Editing Continues.

Week Eight - October 27
Finishing Touches. Teens will finish polishing up their project and prepare for the premier!

PREMIER - October 29
Are you red carpet ready? Teens are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and bring their friends and family to watch the premier of their Halloween Movie Project!

Please note, any participating teens should plan to wear the same outfit for all filming days in order to maintain continuity.

Registration is required for this project.
