Presenter Bios

Matt Mayberry is the Cultural Services Manager for the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department. Among other duties, he oversees the operation of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site, and the interpretive programs at Garden of the Gods. He curated the prize-winning exhibition "Pike's World: Exploration and Empire in the Greater Southwest." Mr. Mayberry was the keynote speaker for the 2006 Pikes Peak Regional History Symposium, presenting “Zebulon Pike & the Exploration of the Southwest,” later published in “To Spare No Pains,” Zebulon Montgomery Pike and His 1806-1807 Southwest Expedition – a joint publication by the Pikes Peak Library District’s Special Collections and the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum in 2007. He has more than twenty years experience as an educator and administrator of history museums and holds an MA in history from UCCS. He writes and speaks on a wide variety of topics related to local history and museum practices. His article, "Reforging the Golden Spike: The U.S. Gold Mining Industry in World War II," was published in the November 2005 Colorado History magazine.
