Using My Account in the New Catalog

Can I bookmark a link directly to “My Account” in the new catalog?

Yes. Use this link: http://ppld.org/catalog/my-account

My Account lets you view your checkouts, holds, and any fines you may have. You can also view your personal information and set up your preferences.

Go to My Account page by clicking My Account from the upper-right corner of the header. If you are not already logged in, the system will prompt you to log in before you can access the My Account page.

Getting Around in My Account

There are four My Account tabs: Personal Information, Checkouts, Holds, and Fines. Click on a tab to open it up.

Understanding the Summary Box

The summary box 1 gives you a quick view of the number of items you have currently checked out, the number of items you have on hold, and the amount of fines. You can click a heading 2 (for example, "Checkouts") to open the corresponding tab.

The summary box also shows your user status. Some statuses prevent you from performing certain actions (for example, if you have $10 or more in unpaid fines, you may have a status that prevents you from renewing items you have checked out). If you have questions about your status, talk to staff at the Library.

Alert Icons

Alert icons will appear in My Account when a new action is available to you. For example, if you have a hold that has arrived and is ready for you to pick up, you will see an alert icon on your Holds tab and in your summary box next to the Holds heading 3. Alert icons will appear when:

  • You have overdue checkouts
  • You have holds that are ready for you to pick up
  • You have any new or unpaid fines

These topics will explain more about each tab in My Account:

Personal Information

The Personal Information tab has two sections: User information (your name will appear as the heading) and Preferences.

User Information

The User information section displays your address information. If you see something that is inaccurate or outdated, please talk to staff at the library. It is important that we have the correct email, phone number and address so we can notify you of available holds and overdue materials.

Preferences

Set up your personal preferences in the Preferences section. You can configure these options:

  • Default Language lets you select which language you want the system to use when you log in.
  • Default My Account Tab lets you select which tab (Personal Information, Checkouts, Holds, or Fines) opens when you access the My Account page.
  • Preferred List lets you select a default My List. When you add a title to your lists, the New Catalog adds it to the default list unless you select a different list in the drop-down menu. You can create a list to use as your preferred list in the My Lists page (see Adding/Deleting Lists).
  • Preferred Pickup Library: You can set the default pickup library for holds you place using the New Catalog.

Checkouts

22

My Current Checkouts

The My Current Checkouts section displays the items that you have currently checked out. If you have any items that are overdue, they will appear at the top of the list with the alert icon 1.

You can click on the title or image of any item to view its detail page.

Use the sort icon 28 to sort items. Click once to sort ascending. Click again to sort descending.

Renewals

If you want to renew items, select the items you want to renew (or select them all by using the Select All check box 2) and then click the Renew button 3.

If the renewal limit has already been reached for an item, this message will display continually with the item: Renewal limit reached: this item cannot be renewed.4

If an item is successfully renewed, you will see a new date due for the item in the checkouts tab and a 1 or 2 under the "Times Renewed" column.

If an item could not be renewed, you will see a message "Item has holds" in red text, under the item. The "Times Renewed" counter will not have increased and the date due will not have changed.

33

Holds

23

Any holds that have arrived and are now available for you to pick up will appear at the top of the list with the alert icon 1. The status of the hold will also read "Ready for Pickup."

You can click on the title or image of any item to view its detail page.

From this section, you can also cancel a hold and edit a hold's pickup Library (if the hold has not yet become available). To perform one of these actions, select the items you want (or select them all by using the Select All check box 2) and then click one of these buttons 3:

  • Cancel Hold(s). After you click this button, a window will open to confirm the cancellation.
Click Yes to cancel the hold or No to go back.
  • Edit Pickup Location(s). After you click this button, a window will open where you can select the new pickup location. Click Change to change the location or Cancel to go back.

Use the sort icon 28 to sort items. Click once to sort ascending. Click again to sort descending.

Fines

24

The Fines tab has two sections: Accruing Fines and Current Fines. Click on the tabs to open and close each section.

Accruing Fines 1

Go to the Accruing Fines section to view any accruing fines assessed to your library account. An accruing fine is a fine for overdue materials that have not been returned. That fine is not reflected in the "Fines total" in your status/summary box. We cannot assess the fine on the account until the item is returned or renewed. If the item is not returned within five weeks of the due date, it will become a LOST item on your account and you will see the fine for the full price of the item in the Current Fines section.

Current Fines 2

Go to the Current Fines section to view and pay any unpaid fines.

You can click on the title or image of any item to view its detail page.

You can pay the fines in person at the Library or you can pay fines online by clicking on the "Click here to pay fine" link in your account summary box. The minimum online payment is $2.50.

Payment can be taken at the Library in any amount.

Hold - getting Privilege Expired notice

I tried to put a book on hold and got the message that the Privilege Expired.

Hi there. Library cards

Hi there. Library cards expire every three years. Please come into your library with picture ID and we'll reinstate the card. Thanks!

I need to change my address.

I need to change my address. What constitutes proof of change of address?

Hi there. Photo ID, mail,

Hi there. Photo ID, mail, personal check, car registration, or any other official document with the current address on it.

I just want to change my address!

This is frustrating. I just want to change my street address, everything else is the same. Are we to assume you no longer care about physical address as long as the other info is accurate?

Hi there. You'll need to come into the Library with proof of your new address to update your address. Thanks!

update phone/address?

There seems to be no way to update an address. If you log onto the old, classic catalog, you can change your phone and email, but not your address. In the new catalog, you can't do any of those things. When I contacted the library via on-line help, they referred me to the FAQ page that tells me to log onto the classic catalog or contact the library! Seems like very circular help to me!!

Changing account information

How do you change the phone numbers associated with your account?

Reply to "Changing Account Information"

Hi,
If you log on to your account via the classic catalog (http://classiccat.ppld.org), you will see an option to "Update your email address and/or phone number" in "My Account." We have suggested this function to the vendor for the new catalog and hope it will be available in the near future. You can also call or visit the library to update your phone number.
