Your Library: It’s a Brain-Builder

Over the last couple of decades, there has been a great deal of research on the importance of early childhood brain development. The learning and life experiences a child has in his or her early years set the stage for future learning and development. Developing early pre-reading skills and experiences is critical to a child’s future success.

A recent publication produced by the US Chamber of Commerce and the Institute for a Competitive Workforce states, “There is not a single state where 50 percent or more of the children are proficient in reading or math.” And, it states, “Seventy percent of U.S. eighth graders read below a proficient level.”

That’s why Pikes Peak Library District’s Summer Reading Program, storytimes, and All Pikes Peak Reads programs are so important for your child or grandchild. Our reading program can motivate your child to continue to read for fun, even when school is out: Summer reading programs have been shown to be effective in maintaining or increasing reading proficiency levels over the summer. Pikes Peak Library District’s Summer Reading Programs, One World, Many Stories, is for kids and You Are Here for teens. Send your kids and grandkids in right away to get signed up.

You’ll also be amazed by the learning opportunities we offer for adults. Our annual History Symposium features presentations on “Film and Photography in the Pikes Peak Region.” Our online computer classes and our Career Compass job classes are plentiful and free. Our All Pikes Peak Reads selections were just announced, so everyone — kids and adults alike — can start reading this summer.

PPLD is the best!

I love PPLD!

Each library has its own character and flavor, but each is filled with a vibrant energy and with folks looking for a great read, a new discovery, a new recipe or idea.

PPLD is a living sculpture, one that all people in the district seem comfortable being a part of!

Thank you!
