My List
I really wish there was a way to save items online without actually placing a hold. The "My List" feature seems like it was supposed to do this but it doesn't save your selections. There should be some kind of cart or favorites list!
My List
We agree entirely and would like to have a feature within "My Account" that allows patrons to maintain lists of items for their personal use. Currently, "My List" doesn't keep selections past the session, but we will implement perpetual lists in the near future. We are currently looking at software that will give patrons a number of nice features within "My Account."
Interlibrary Loan problems
On this new website, I can't figure out how to create an inter-library loan, or renew interlibrary materials. It is not listed under your "How Do I?" section on the left side of the page.
Click on "Interlibrary Loan"
Click on "Interlibrary Loan" in the left navbar on ppld.org's home page to access ILL. Or select "Get Titles Not in the Catalog" in the How Do I pull-down menu. Hope this helps!
Tell Me More program
RE: Tell me more
I am unable to access this program even though I have created an account and have the correct user name and password as verified to me in an email. My computer is a 2009 hp with windows 7 and it has all the necessary elements to run "Tell Me More." I have spoken to at least three people from reference and they have been unable to help. They cannot access this program from within the library so they can't give me a solution. Not only that but they can't give me the name or number of anyone who knows anything about it. Why does the library have a program they know nothing about and have no contacts for patrons to find out.

News feed
The new home page has a news feed (RSS or ATOM) that Firefox autodiscovers, but the feed is empty.

I'll look into this. There
I'll look into this. There shouldn't be a feed on the home page. Thanks for the heads up.
NOT the catalog
So, I'm reading through these comments and I am seeing that there are a lot of people either thinking the catalog changed, or complaining about the catalog. I just wanted to emphasize that the catalog is exactly the way it's always been. No changes, same searching and everything else. The cool - very cool - new and improved site is what changed. Not the catalog. Just saying.
Really, is D'oh even a word?
Really, is D'oh even a word? How insulting that our LIBRARY feels the need to "dumb" down its own website. Also, I am not finding this site easy to navigate. Why must everything be improved, which really doesn't make the website better? I just want to pay my fine online, which should be a simple matter, but D'oh, it isn't....
D'oh - a commentary on our world.
Sheesh! It's called a sense of humor. You should get one. They're nice.
I'll change the error page to
I'll change the error page to say "whoops" instead. Really we aren't trying to dumb down the website, I was just trying to keep the mood light (and I thought it was funny, my bad).
Paying your fines online is currently unavailable outside of library facilities. We're working to fix this as fast as we can. Thank you for your patience.
New web site!
I find the new web site confusing & difficult to navigate – obviously not user friendly - not at all as it should be programmed!
It seems to me that the first business of the program should be to allow the user a clear route to their account or to search to find a certain book. With all the other library services secondary! After all a library is first & foremost for loaning materials.
If the programming work is done correctly & tested before installation occurs (which it definitely should & can be) there should be little (if any) intermittent downtime during an upgrade. Any necessary intermittent downtown should be during overnight hours when there would be less chance of hassle for users.
We're sorry you find the new
We're sorry you find the new website difficult to navigate. Links to the Catalog and My Account are in the top left part of the upper navbar on every page. Most people are using those services so they are in the most obvious place on the website. We've done extensive usability testing with this website and have overwhelmingly positive feedback. I hope that over time you will feel the same way.
Digital photo archives inaccessible
I cannot access the digital photo archives. Is this due to the web site update? If so, can you tell me when they will be back online?
Digital photo archives inaccessible
With your new website I have been unable to access the photo archives. Not a big fan with the new system .
I'm able to access the Photo
I'm able to access the Photo Archives and we haven't gotten any other complaints. Do you have the site bookmarked, by any chance? If so, you'll want to update your bookmark to be:

I hope this helps. If not, please reply to this post and we'll pursue this further.
Nicely done.
I'm a website designer here in Old Colorado City and use your library and website all the time. I like the new changes. The layout is nice and the functionality has been improved and modernized. Great job :)
WEBSITE
I think that your new website is terrible. Please go back to the original
Firefox compatibility issue
I'm using 3.6.10. The content boxes that should sit in the right hand beige bar are floating on top of the middle (white) section of the layout in my browser. I had to switch to IE to actually view the pages.
We developed this website
We developed this website using Firefox and have had no layout issues. Are you sure your screen is maximized and your resolution is at least 1024x768? Are you using a handheld device or a Mac Mini?
Standard desktop computer.
Standard desktop computer. Screen resolution 1680x1050. Firefox is maximized. right not the IM service message is floating on top of the comment box so I can't see the right hand side of my typing. It looks fine in IE.
Hmmm. I'm unable to recreate
Hmmm. I'm unable to recreate this. What OS are you using? Can you send a screenshot to vfranklyn at ppld dot org, please? Thanks for your time.
Bring Back Power Search!
I'm not sure if this is just getting used to something new, but what I REALLY need from the library is to find books on subjects that I'm teaching in homeschool. Honestly, I could not find any books on "Ferdinand Magellan" until I somehow (thankfully!) got back to the old website and used my favorite "Power Search", where I can search only children's books, etc.
Interestingly, in the "How Do I?" section, there is not a selection for "Find a Book".
Please spend less time on the fluff and make sure the nuts and bolts of the great parts of the old website are still there.
Thank you.
Hi DBowe. The Power Search
Hi DBowe. The Power Search is still part of the Catalog, which is not affected by this upgrade. You can get to the Catalog by clicking on "Catalog" in the upper toolbar or by going to http://catalog.ppld.org/. I hope this helps.
The ILL
it's such a nuisance to have to go to by subject to go to the inter library loan.
Sorry about that. It's also
Sorry about that. It's also available on the left toolbar of the Research pages. It's the best place we can think of to put it. We don't want it on the home page because we want to encourage patrons to try the Catalog first. I hope this helps.
WOW
I'm so glad you finally changed the web!
my account
I have tried several times to login to my account and get no response from the system. I usually do this very late at night, are there times when the system is down?
New Website slow
The new website looks great. You probably already know this but, it is VERY slow.
Thanks for the heads up, Ann.
Thanks for the heads up, Ann. Sorry it was slow for you. We've been trying to optimize the site for speed. We'll keep working on it. Anyone else out there slow?
New Web page slow
I find that using the new web page to search and reserve books is much slower that the old site. It takes more time to paint the screens.
Thanks.
Validation
You might want to look at the markup errors:

Thanks Kenneth.
Thanks Kenneth.
bring back a text only home page
Your new web site / home page is far too "busy", there's far too much stuff on it (none of which I care about). For that matter, your old home page was just as bad. I can and do complain on technical grounds -- wasted use of bandwidth, complex HTML provokes brower compatibility problems. But mostly I find it unusable -- the visual clutter and distraction makes it hard to use.
Please bring back http://ppld.org/defaulttextonly.asp, or something similar, a plain, simple, sparse home page. It's all I ever used before. Alternately, and easily remembered direct link to account login, since that is all I use 99% of the time.
Note http://ppld.org/defaulttextonly.asp presently returns a 404, page not found error.
Hi Edward, thanks for your
Hi Edward, thanks for your suggestion. We're working hard to keep the website as simple as possible, but we have to highlight the myriad of features offered to the public. We developed this website for compatibility with IE 7+, Firefox 3.6+, Chrome 6+, Safari 5+, and Opera 10+.
The "My Account" link is on the upper navbar on every page.
Drupal is great
I see your nice site is based on Drupal. I used Drupal for my last project, and I really like it too. Your new PPLD site is much better, and I hope Sirsi (the catalog) updates its site for new web technologies and practices. When I use Sirsi, I feel like I am in 1990's using Netscape.
In this comment reply form, the bullets under the form are slightly too far to the left in Firefox 3.6. The bullets should be in the white area, but they are on the margin instead.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think your layout is really cool. I think it shows more exitement then the current website!
I really like the colors and I like the pic of Pikes Peak(?) at the top! But I also think it would be nice to have a search for how much lost books will cost to pay for. Other then that, its really cool!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice layout..couple of suggestions
I like the page layout looks better than the one before. I particularly like the "How Do I" feature. I can quickly find answers to some of the common questions. I understand that, once rolled out, it may take users a few days to get used to the new layout. I always felt that your current homepage was too plain, though too simple. The new layout reduces #clicks for where I want to go. Well done!
I would like these extra features if possible:
1. Holds expiry: The Holds page does not tell me how close I am to the one-year expiry of my unfilled held items. Showing the date will tell me if I still have to renew my hold. Alternatively, user could be notified (via email) of the approaching expiry of their hold.
2. List of To-Reads: I would like to maintain a list of books to read or DVD's to watch on the website. With a tremendous catalog available via ILL, I find that there are lot more books that I want to borrow thru PPLD..!!!
Thanks!
ILL Suggestions
I would like to have access to ILL. How do I?
Thanks for your input. I'll
Thanks for your input. I'll pass your suggestions along to our Catalog administrator.
Search Engines
Consider adding "search engines" button on home page.
Hi Bill, we already have a
Hi Bill, we already have a lot on the home page. Since Search Engines are used only by a relatively small number of PPLD staff, we've put it on the Research home page instead. Sorry...
New website
I like the new website. I think it will be easier to use than the old one. Thanks!
new website
I hope the new website will be faster--the old one just bogs down and takes forever to run. Also, I hope for improved search capabilities. The old system does not have a good set of parameters and it often brings up far out possibilities and misses closer results.
I suspect you are comparing
I suspect you are comparing the new website to the Catalog. Unfortunately, the Catalog will not be affected by this change. It is a service to which we subscribe and we are at the vendor's mercy on updates to the service. However, we are looking at some software that will improve the Catalog's search feature. Thanks for your input!
Please Update the Catalog
Yes, please do update the catalog. It would be really nice to be able to bookmark a page directly to a book so that I can return to it later or forward it as a recommendation to a friend.
It would also be nice to be able to open multiple tabs or use the browser's back button.
Ooh, and as a feature request, I would like to be able to add books that I want to read in the future to a list but not put them on hold yet. That way I don't forget what I want to read in the future and I don't end up with a pile of 10 books that I have to read in two weeks.
I love the features that PPLD provides but the web interface to the catalog is pretty limiting.
Have you looked into Open-ILS?
New search, please!
I, too, would like to see a better search ability in the catalog. I don't suppose you would be able to add Google to the catalog, but something like that is sorely needed.
Comments
So far it looks good and looks like a lot of resources I didn't know were available.
Seems very intuitive and easy to move around and also to get to the most used areas.
Looking forward to full conversion.

The New Website & New High Prairie Library
I think your New Website is looking great! Although maybe a little to much on the home page design. You should try to see about removing a few windows or tabs to make it a little easier and faster for people to navigate through. As for a good honest opinion about the new High Prairie Library located in falcon. It's a different story i don't know who was in charge of the process in making, designing, creating, the style of the building. Whoever it was either one person or a whole team responsible for the design? He or They should be Fired or Demoted for such an ugly, distasteful, looking eyesore of a building. It looks like some type of cheap country western outhouse, or feed store. Seriously though if there is still a little money left over in the the budget maybe think about changing a few things on the outside of the building. Yes i know it's located in Falcon and yes it's true there are a few feed stores near by and we even have a Richardson's Western Supply store a few blocks down the street but they specialize in the field of selling horse Saddle's and tackle not being a public Library! It makes you feel like not wanting to go check out and explore your new library in town, maybe just pick up a bail of hay for your horses and goats if you had any. I have also lived in towns with a lot of western looking stores and shops but they had a reason for looking the way they did, they had a lot of farms and ranches everywhere throughout the city not like over here. This has to be about one of the worst looking libraries i have ever seen!!!
