Artists of the Knight: Yuriy Luzov

Artist’s Statement:

“I’ve been primarily focused on hand-built wood-fired ceramics for the past decade, having chanced upon a budding community centered around several large kilns in Taos, New Mexico in 2007. Prior to that, I had been deeply engaged with the medium of polymer clay for nearly another decade. The ceramic work, especially the geometric sprig molds I’ve been developing more recently, is very much informed by the aesthetic born from the polymer clay practice. I am fascinated by the interplay of geometric and organic design elements, symmetry and pattern in nature and mathematics.

“Some of my influences include: Islamic Design, Sacred Geometry, Art Nouveau, M.C. Escher, Alex Grey, H.R. Giger, Zdislaw Beksinski, Robert Venosa, Nature.”
