Harry Potter Questions & Answers

Filed under: General — Betty @ 11:39 am

Harry Potter 7

Ok, so maybe like you, I’m reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Fortunately I have an expert at home (Jory) who’s reread all Harry Potter books again…and again….and possibly again. I go to him for answers to Harry Potter questions. It’s hard to remember back through all the books sometimes! Anyway, if you have a Harry Potter question write it in the comment box below. I’ll ask the expert at home (who’s now away at college) and post the answer.

183 Responses to “Harry Potter Questions & Answers”

  1. charlie Says:

When did malfoy gain control of the elder wand, so harry could become the true owner of it? I missed it somewhere, was it when malfoy was told to kill someone early on in the book by voldemort.

  2. Jory Says:

Malfoy became the owner of the elder wand at the end of the 6th book when he disarmed Dumbledore.

  3. Jess Says:

Why did Nearly Headless Nick get exacuted? Did he commit crime or was he innocent?

  4. Betty Says:

The question about Nearly Headless Nick was fun to find. There’s a good website: The Harry Potter Lexicon that says that Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington (Nearly Headless Nick) was a wizard who died 500 years before in a botched execution. Another website called
hp-encyclopedia.com says that Nearly Headless Nick “was put to death without trial for trying to straighten a woman’s teeth and afflicting her with a tusk.” It sounds to me like Nearly Headless Nick was an innocent wizard but got into a lot of trouble for messing up a spell.

  5. jimba Says:

wat is voldermort’s patronus??i know he cant be capable enough to conjure a happy thought because of the evil in him, but just for curiosity, if he was able to ….wat would his patronus be????let me know

  6. Betty Says:

I found these 2 comments on a blog and I think they make sense:
    1) ” I don’t think Voldemort has a patronus because it is derived from a very happy memory. Voldemort probably hasn’t been happy a day in his life, which is why he is so evil. However, IF he did have one, it would be a snake…no doubt.”
    2) “Voldmort might possibly not be able to conjure a Patronus becasue is most often used to protect someone against evil. And he is the untimate evil. If he is able to conjure one, I think it would most likely be a serpant.”
Otherwise, I have not found anything online or otherwise about Voldemort’s patronus.
    Great question! Thanks.

  7. sydney Says:

In the 6th book, why did’nt Dumbledore just poor the potion on the ground? Did he HAVE to drink it?

  8. Betty Says:

Sydney : Yes, he had to drink it…. there was a spell that kept the horcrux in the basin, and in order to reveal it you had to drink it.

  9. cindy Says:

how can you make house elves wash cloths without setting them free?

  10. Kezia Says:

you order them to do it and put in the disclaimer ‘on no account are these clothes being given to you, your job is purely to wash them; they do not belong to you’.

  11. charlie Says:

House elves can be given an order but not the item of clothing.

Clean my clothes! but you don’t give them the clothing.

  12. Raymond Says:

How does Professor Dumbledore know what other people see in the Mirror of Erised, if it only shows “your” heart’s desires?

  13. Nicole Says:

House elves can be given an order but not the item of clothing.

Clean my clothes! but you don’t give them the clothing.

  14. Betty Says:

Ok, Raymond, I’ve been researching your question about the Mirror of Erised and Dumbledore (#13 above). I submitted your question to a Harry Potter discussion forum on Wisegeek.com and got this response: “Dumbledore is probably pretty good at Legilimency (mind reading), he’s good at most other magic.”
Then I looked on a site called Harry Potter Wiki and found this definition of legilimency: “Legilimency is the act of magically navigating through the many layers of a person’s mind and correctly interpreting one’s findings.”
So, putting both quotes together, I’d say that Dumbledore could know what Harry was thinking and therefore knew what his heart’s desire would be.
I hope this answers your really good question. Oh, and here’s another response I got which is a far simpler explanation : “Dumbledore must have heard Harry and Ron discussing what they saw. They were talking about it out loud, and dumbledore was in the room with them, if invisible.”

  15. jigs Says:

where does Profssor dumbledor preserve his thoughts

  16. Betty Says:

Wisegeek.com has tons of Harry Potter facts and discussion. I think the answer to the last comment above (about Dumbledore’s thoughts) is the pensieve. Here’s a quote from Wisegeek.com:(referring to the pensieve) “Dumbledore says that he uses it to store thoughts that are weighing on his mind, or to organize memories which seem to be connected.” Check out the further description of how the pensieve can be used on Wisegeek!

  17. Pamelor Says:

    There is no magic skill.

  18. dinna Says:

    who is ron’s sister?

  19. Betty Says:

Ron’s sister is Ginny (Ginerva Molly Weasley is her full name.)

  20. maddieee Says:

actually, snape became the true owner of the elder wand when he KILLED dumbledore. disarming the beholder of the wand doesnt make it yours. only when the life of the owner is taken, then the killer becomes the owner. snape was the true owner, until voldemort killed him, and then truely had control over the wand.

  21. maddieee Says:

no nevermind, i just listened to a podcast and i had it wrong. sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. tasha Says:

would voldemorts patronous be a snake?? i meen, he was a parsolmouth, he spoke parsoltounge, he spoke to snakes. the flag of sltherin has a snake on it. Voldemort(tom marvolo riddle) made the chamber of secrets which had to be opened by speaking parsoltounge to a sink that is enblazoned with a snake. the monster down the chamber is a basalisk, which is a snake. it all fits perfectly if you jiggle it aroud. so i thing voldemorts patronous was a snake, but he might of lost it when he lost his powers to harry. which is why harry is very good at casting patronouses

  23. katie Says:

That is a very good question. I’m not Jory, but I read it and decided to put my two cents in. The books never tell us what Voldemorts patronus is and he never produces one, but I think your theory may be right in some aspects. Harry is very good at casting patronuses maybe in part because of the powers he got from Voldemort, but he also has some very happy, powerful memories that help him produce such a stron patronus. Voldemort probably has no need to cast a patronus seeing as he controls the dementors… If he had one though, I’ll bet it’s a snake.

  24. Jake Says:

Why can Death Eaters block spells?

  25. Betty Says:

From the Harry Potter Lexicon: “Albus Dumbledore captured the Death Eaters who had been fighting in the Department of Mysteries and held them with an Anti-Disapparition Jinx (OP36).” (Jinxes are part of defensive magic.) So, at least a jinx from Dumbledore affected the death eaters, but I’m still looking.

  26. Jory Says:

The death eaters instill fear–which would prevent spell casting.

  27. Olive Says:

Ok so in the fifth book Harry tells the death eaters that voldermort is a half-blood. Why do his death eaters not care that voldermort is a half-blood?

  28. Jory Says:

well…. i would guess it doesnt matter because they are all terribly afraid by his power

  29. Amanda Says:

Is Ron Headboy and Hermoine Head Girl?
    How is the new Headmaster?
    Does Ginny marry Harry?
    Does Hermoine marry Ron?

Answers: No neither Ron nor Hermoine are ever Head Boy or Girl; The new headmaster at the end of all the books is Minerva McGonagall; Ginny does marry Harry; Hermoine does marry Ron.

  30. Amanda Says:

    Who is the new headmaster?
    Which Weasly twin dies?
Does Percy talk to his family again?

Answers: Minerva McGonagall is the headmaster for many years; Fred Weasley is the twin who dies; and yes, Percy makes up with his family after the Battle of Hogwarts.

  31. Betty Says:

    Here’s a Wisegeek.com response to #15 question above:

This is directly from the live chat with jk rowling through bloomsbury (UK publisher)
Allie: What did dumbledore truly see in the mirror of erised

J.K. Rowling: He saw his family alive, whole and happy – Ariana, Percival and Kendra all returned to him, and Aberforth reconciled to him.

so now we know for sure that it wasnt socks =)

He saw the same thing harry did; his family.

  32. Anthony Says:

What is the difference between transfiguration and Animagusy?

  33. Jory Says:

transfiguration is turning OBJECTS or actually just anything into different things while animagusy is turning one’s self into an animal.

  34. Andrew Says:

Jory, I am the expert to and I wanted to say that people may or have already wanted to know what Harry Potters wand is made of. Its the tale of a phinix. I also know that in the deathly hollows someone will die. And it will be someone expected. so don’t be to surprised if you read it and you can guess. But what I can tell you is that it will not be Herry Potter. I think that it is Herry potters 15th birthday and that he gets to use magic unattended. It is also his last year at hogwarts and the book is the final Chapter book in the series. But… J.K Rowling has put out another book called… the Tale of Bettle The Bard. To prove accuracy.. I will tell you that I have the book. The book is about a bunch of enchanted storys and then Dumbledore simply makes fun of them. That is all I can tell you.

    Thank you for your time,

  35. cami Says:

what house was hagrid in ?

  36. Betty Says:

Hagrid was sorted into Gryffindor after arriving at Hogwarts his first year.

  37. hope Says:

In harry potter half blood prince, they find a piece of paper with the initials R.A.B in the locket. who is this that has the horcrux.

  38. Betty Says:

R.A.B. is Regulus Arcturus Black, younger brother of Sirius Black. Regulus became a death eater when he was 16 but had a change of heart. He was murdered when he was 18. See this helpful page: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Regulus_Black

  39. Tam Says:

Near the end of “Deathly Hallows”, how did Neville get the Gryfandor sword that he used to kill Voldemort’s snake?

  40. Sharon Says:

I know serius sent Harry is firebolt, but who sent him his nimbus 2000. I always thought it was Dumbledore but could it have been Snape, because Snape came up to Harry just before his first quiddich match to tell him good luck. Thank you.

  41. Betty Says:

Ok, to answer Tam’s question, here is a quote from the Harry Potter Lexicon site:
“In the final battle at Hogwarts, Neville drew Gryffindor’s sword from the hat, and slew Nagini – the last Horcrux.”

  42. Betty Says:

McGonagall bought Harry his first broom. Why? … “it may be part of her job to see to it that the house team is outfitted, so there may very well be a budget to cover this. After all, Wood immediately informed McGonagall that Harry would need a broom when she pointed him out as a good candidate for Seeker.”

  43. QWMichael Says:

No. But now i will. Thanks for that.

  44. Sam Says:

McGonagall bought Harry his first broom because she cared about him. She knew he was going to be a great seeker and a great wizard. She also wanted her team to finally win the House Cup and she knew the only way she was going to was to have him on the team, she also knew that he wouldn’t have enough money to buy a broomstick, so she bought him one so he could play and win the House Cup.

  45. mimi Says:

what ever happened to Luna Lovegood, cho chang, dean thomas and all the death eaters after voldermort died?

  46. Emilee Says:

  47. Lisa Says:

Is the Resurrection Stone another name for the Sorceror’s Stone, or are they different things?

  48. Harry Potter Says:

Interesting Post about Harry Potter Theme park, It is Amazing park..
A lot Crowd There at the time of opening…
All harry potter movie stars were there..

  49. Robert Says:

To add to bettys statement. Neville was able to pull godrics sword out of the sorting hat because he was a true GRYFINDOOr. harry did the same thing in Chamber of secrets.

  50. Robert Says:

Voldemort could very well conjure a patronous because Lupin told harry there are different ways to make a patronous in book 3. And harry had once gotten a bad grade on an assignment from snape in half blood prince because he disagreed with him on the best way to conjure a patronous.

  51. andria Says:

in the begining of the deathly hallows, who are the six harry potter decoys and their guardians??

  52. Betty Says:

To answer Mimi above, go to http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Death_Eaters
This site seems to have the answers to your questions. Luna got married eventually as did Cho, there is no information about Dean’s life and it has lots of information about each Death Eater.

  53. Betty Says:

To answer Lisa above: The Sorcerer’s Stone, also known as the Philosopher’s Stone, “was a man-made, blood-red stone with magical properties. It could be used to create the Elixir of Life, which extended the drinker’s lifespan, as well as transform any metal into pure gold.” But the Resurrection Stone “was one of the Deathly Hallows and one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes.” from Harry Potter Wiki : http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Resurrection_Stone

  54. Betty Says:

In 1991, Harry received a Nimbus 2000 broomstick his first year at Hogwarts as a gift from Professor McGonagall. After it was destroyed in 1993, Harry received a Firebolt broomstick at Christmas as a gift from his godfather, Sirius Black.

  55. heart Says:

where is the meeting being heldin chapter 1 on Harry potter and the deathly hallows?

  56. Betty Says:

Answer to #55: “The final book begins with Voldemort and his Death Eaters at the home of Lucius Malfoy, Malfoy Manor.” — Harry Potter Wiki

  57. brett Says:

when does it mention in the final book about harry and ginny’s kids middle names? i know about albus severus potter, but what about lily and james?

  58. Betty Says:

Harry and Ginny’s kids are mentioned in the epilogue: 19 years later (very end of the book): James Sirius, Albus Severus, Lily Luna. Cute names.
    (from Harry Potter Wiki: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Harry_Potter_and_the_Deathly_Hallows)

  59. brett Says:

I’ve finished the whole series but it never said what happens to Greyback or Luna Lovegood

  60. Betty Says:

According to the Harry Potter Wiki that I like to consult: “Later in life, Luna became a wizarding naturalist and eventually married Rolf Scamander, with whom she had two sons, Lorcan and Lysander.” And as for Fenrir Greyback: ” Fenrir Greyback was present at the Battle of Hogwarts, where he was repelled by Hermione Granger while attempting to attack Lavender Brown. He was then injured by a crystal ball dropped from a higher floor by Sybill Trelawney who was most likely protecting Lavender because she was on their side and she was one of the few students who liked her teaching. While he apparently was felled during the skirmish, he was later seen as a grey blur running four-legged through the battle. During the final showdown in the Great Hall, he was “brought down” by Ron Weasley and Neville Longbottom….It is uncertain if he was killed in the battle, but if he survived, it is likely that he was imprisoned in Azkaban for his crimes.” – Harry Potter Wiki http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

  61. john Says:

    i like potter

  62. Amber Says:

In Half Blood Prince, why when Dumbledore and Harry found slughorns memory did Tom Riddle Rare pieces of magic?

  63. Amber Says:

I mean ask slughorn about rare pieces of magic
    But, why?

  64. Sally Says:

Ive watched the first 4 harry potters, i love them, but i want to know who killed dumbledore and how did he die?

i also want to know what is the definition of death eaters because idont understand that

  65. Carmen Says:

how come when voldamort tried to kill harry it didnt work and he only got a scaree?

Does voldamort need some of harrys blood to come back to life?

  66. Betty Says:

    To Carmen,
Voldemort tried to kill Harry when he was a baby but it didn’t work because of Harry’s mother’s loving sacrifice. She died so that Harry would not die, her love protected Harry. When Voldemort struck Harry with the killing curse it rebounded and hit Voldemort instead, destroying his body. This attack made Harry into a horcrux which meant that a bit of Voldemort’s soul embedded itself into Harry (no one knew this for a long time. ) Years later, Voldemort used some of Harry’s blood to restore his body. Voldemort was reborn using Harry’s blood.

  67. Betty Says:

    To Sally,
Professor Snape kills Dumbledore but only after both men had planned it. Dumbledore was already dying from a deadly horcrux curse infecting his hand and spreading. And Dumbledore knew that Draco had been charged to kill him, so, to spare Draco, Snape agreed to make it look like he had intended to murder Dumbledore. It was very convincing, wasn’t it?
The definition of a death eater: followers of Voldemort. Witches and wizards who broke wizarding laws all the time. Examples: Bellatrix Lastrange, Barty Crouch, Draco and Lucius Malfoy and Peter Pettigrew.

  68. Betty Says:

    To Amber,
Professor Slughorn was the Potions master at Hogwarts back when Tom Riddle (Voldemort) was a student. Slughorn favored gifted students and liked Tom Riddle. One day Tom asked the professor about rare pieces of magic. Tom Riddle was able to get the secret of immortality out of Slughorn: horcruxes–splitting one’s soul and placing the bits of soul into objects or even people. Many years later, Slughorn was asked to come back to Hogwarts. It was up to Harry to find out what Slughorn had told Tom Riddle many years before.

  69. Carmen Says:

I just watched the harry potter and the deathly hallows today and i dont get it when ron says to harry ” harry we know you are the chosen one”
what does that mean? chosen one
i havent watched the 6th harry potter

  70. Andy Says:

How does the deathly hallows end?
    does voldamort die?

  71. Andy Says:

Btw what happened with there school in hagwarts?
    did it shutdown?
or did they graduate of something?

anddd alsooo what happened to that cat transforming lady from the 1st harry potter?

    thank you :)

  72. Andy Says:

What is meant when Ron said to harry ” i know you are the chosen one”
what does that meann because i didnt watch the 6th harry potter.

  73. Joey Says:

From what I understand Dumbledore planed his own death. Why did he do this?

  74. Betty Says:

Spoiler Alert! : Dumbledore did plan his own death with Snape because he was dying already. See comment #68 above.

  75. mackenzie Says:

why were the bad people (i forgot what they’re called)killing the teacher in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows the movie in the begining of the movie?? and why does volcof have a flat face ((its suupper ugly)) hahaha

  76. Betty Says:

At the beginning of the last book, Lord Voldemort is meeting with his Death Eaters and borrows a wand in order to kill Harry. He uses the wand on Charity Burbage, former professor of Muggle Studies at Hogwarts, killing her. Voldemort’s face has been mutilated by his involvement with the Dark Arts. Splitting his soul many times also left him looking kind of like a snake.

  77. Samuel Says:

one question for me is why Nagini(voldemorts snake),
can speak parseltounge but other snakes can’t. For example, Nagini speaks in the beginning of the Goblet
    of Fire movie.

  78. sofia Says:

Who wanted to go to godrics hallo to see Harry’s mom and dads grave?

    a) Hermione

  79. Betty Says:

Answering #69 & #72 comments above: The “chosen” one is Harry because he was not killed by Voldemort. He truly was the boy who survived.

  80. Betty Says:

Answering #70(SPOILER ALERT): Yes, Voldmort is killed at the end of book 7. But a lot more happens than that! You have to read the book!

  81. Betty Says:

Answering # 71: Hogwarts continues but the students in the books graduate and grow up. Professor McGonagall becomes Hogwarts headmaster.

  82. Betty Says:

Answering #77: All snakes speak parseltongue. Nagini is the only one mentioned although there was that seen in the first book at the zoo when the snake talks to Harry.

  83. Betty Says:

    The answer to #78: Harry.

  84. Memsuronno (mem-sure-OWN-new) Says:

If Moody had his magic eye, which could see through things, couldn’t he truly see what a bogart looked like? And if this is so, what a bogart truly look like? I don’t think Moody would see his worst fear because the bogart doesn’t know it’s being looked at, but Moody can see it. Is this right?

  85. Betty Says:

Good question Memsuronno! I went to the Harry Potter Wiki (as usual) to see if I could find the answer to your question about boggarts. Here’s a quote: “A boggart is a shape-shifting creature that takes on the form of the viewer’s worst fear. When facing a boggart, it is best to have someone else along, to try to confuse it. Because of their shape-shifting ability, no one knows what a boggart looks like when it is alone, as it instantly changes when you first see it.” Moody’s magical eye lets him recognize a boggart when he sees one but he still doesn’t know what one really looks like.

  86. harrypotterfan!! Says:

if harrys a Horcrux then does that mean he wouldnt of been killed in any of the books anyway???

  87. Betty Says:

Horcruxes can be destroyed and Harry could have been killed with the killing curse but the bit of Voldemort’s soul inside Harry would have been destroyed also. Read this page in the Harry Potter Wiki: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Horcrux to see how each horcrux was destroyed.

  88. Harmony Says:

how mene feet when you go diving?

  89. Lenny Says:

What is Harry potter’s favorite color?

  90. Betty Says:

Apparently, Harry’s favorite color is not mentioned in the books but I’ve seen several guesses that say the same thing: red for Gryffindor.

  91. kamiron Says:

Answer to #4 nearly headless nick was murderd

  92. molly Says:

JKR was considering naming the hippogriff buckbeak a couple of other names, do you have any idea what the other two were? (not talking about witherwings)

  93. Betty Says:

I’ve heard of Beaky (Hagrid’s pet name for Buckbeak) and possibly Blackbeak but I’ll have to check on this last one.

  94. Warren Says:

    Four questions:

    1. In the first book, Charlie Weasley’s friends pick up Norbert from the Astronomy tower. How were they able to do that, but Malfoy had to fix the cabinets to let Death Eaters into Hogwarts and Dumbledore had to recite incantations in order to get into Hogwarts by broom?
    2. Nicholas Flamel’s work in alchemy led to the creation of the Sorcerer’s Stone (Elixir of Life). However, it says on the Chocolate Frog card that Dumbledore was known for his work in alchemy with Nicholas Flamel. Because alchemy centers around the creation of the elixir of life, something that Flamel created ~600 years prior to the novels, does that mean that Dumbledore is 600 something years old? If so, why didn’t he die when the stone was destroyed?
    3. Right before he got zapped with the killing curse in the 7th book, Harry was in control of a) the Elder Wand, which he had obtained from Malfoy when he took Malfoy’s wand; b) the Resurrection stone, which Harry used to briefly bring back his parents, and c) the Invisibility Cloak, which he used while walking to Voldemort’s clearing. Because of this, could it be said that Harry survived the killing curse the second time because he had become the master of death?
    4. If becoming an Animagus was easy enough that 3 fourteen year old kids (James Potter, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew) learned how to do it, when they were camping why didn’t Ron, Hermione and Harry just learn how to do it? Nothing stops a group of snatchers like instantaneously turning into a pissed off dragon.

After countless debates in physics class I’m turning these questions to you. What do you think?

  95. Liz Says:

I have scanned the questions above and don’t see this
(I think) At the end of Deathly Hallows when Harry is talking to Dumbledore, what is the “quivering lump”
    on the floor?

  96. Kelly Says:

    I have two questions
    1. Since the part of Harry that was Voldemort was killed, could he still speak parseltongue?
    2. What houses were Harry’s children sorted into?

  97. marilyn Says:

Watching Deathly Hollows I noticed Harry talking to a broken piece of mirror, where did it come from?

  98. Kelly Says:

    To Marilyn
When Sirius was still alive he gave Harry a mirror that would act as a communication device where they could see eachothers faces and talk without having to worry about the ministry reading letters between them. When Sirius died Harry threw it in a bout of anger that Sirius died. Despite shattering it, it was a gift from Sirius so Harry treaured it and kept it close.

  99. KADEN Says:

    18. Does Harry ever use the Marauder’s Map after Proffeser Lupin gives it back to him?

  100. KADEN Says:

    17. Does The Burrow ever get built back?

  101. KADEN Says:

    16. Was Sr.Crouch really right about Rock Wood the Death Eater was really dead?

  102. KADEN Says:

    15. After Snape KILLS Dumboredore is he still a Hogwarts teacher?

Kaden — No, Mr. Crouch was not right about Rookwood, he was still alive. And Snape does not teach again at Hogwarts after he kills Dumbledore but he is the Headmaster for awhile before the end.

  103. KADEN Says:

    14. After Harry finishes his years at Hogwarts does he still live with the Dursleys?

Answer: Harry never lives with the Dursleys again. In fact, the Dursleys are forced to go into hiding.
Here’s a cool fact from the Harry Potter Wiki:
“Despite his mistreatment of Harry, Harry’s cousin Dudley Dursley eventually came to regret his cruelty towards Harry, and the two reconciled later in life; this was mostly due to an incident in the summer before Harry’s fifth year of schooling that involved him saving Dudley from a Dementor. “

  104. KADEN Says:

    13. Why every year at Hogwarts is there a new Against the Dark Arts teacher, but not Potions and Charms Teacher?

  105. Jenna Says:

We know that Neville replaces Sprout but who takes the Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, and Transfiguration classes?
And what are Hermione and Ron’s jobs? Do they end up as aurors like Harry?

  106. KADEN Says:

    12. Did Nagini, at the zoo know that Harry was his owner’s (Lord Voldemort’s)worst enemie?

  107. KADEN Says:

    11. Does Peter Petigrew ever die?

  108. KADEN Says:

    10) After Snape kills Dumboredore, does Malfoy stay at Hogwarts or cuntinue on with Snape as a Death Eater?

  109. KADEN Says:

    9) Where did the horsemen bring Proffeser Dorles James Umbridge, did they feed on her?

Answer: No, the centaurs don’t eat her but they must beat her up or something because she’s wounded. Later, she returns to the Ministry of Magic but after the Battle of Hogwarts, Professor Umbridge spends the rest of her life in Azkaban. (Harry Potter Wiki)

  110. KADEN Says:

    8. Why is Argus Flich always helping the Slytherins not the Gryffendors,Hufflepuffs,or Ravenclaw?
Did he get expelled when he was a kid at Hogwarts,or did he just come to Hogwarts?

Answer: Argus Filch, the caretaker of Hogwarts, was not ever a student. He was a squib or a wizard born muggle. He disliked all students and the hassles they caused. Anyone got in trouble if they crossed Filch.

  111. KADEN Says:

    7) Why did Malfoy curse Katie Bell to give a trap to Dumboredore?
    Did Belletrix tell him to?

Answer: Harry accused Draco Malfoy of cursing Katie Bell but it was really the innkeeper, Madam Rosmerta (also under the curse), who cast the Imperius Curse on Katie to deliver the poisoned necklace to Dumbledore. Katie found the necklace in the bathroom. This was the first attempt to kill Dumbledore. Katie touched the necklace by mistake and almost died. She spent 6mos. recovering. I will keep looking to see if Bellatrix was directly involved. I’m not sure yet.

  112. KADEN Says:

    6) What is Malfoy’s mother’s name?
    I know Malfoy’s father’s name is Lucius Malfoy,but what is his mother’s?

  113. KADEN Says:

    5) Exactly what happened to The Chamber of Secrets after Harry killed the Basilik? And what happened to Dobby?

  114. KADEN Says:

    4) After Dumboredore dies by Snape, who is the headmaster, isn’t it Harry?

  115. KADEN Says:

    3) Why did Snape save Harry at Quidditch? My guess was:He is a love hate relationship to Harry because he loved Lily Potter while childhood(I think).

  116. KADEN Says:

    2) In Harry Potter The Chamber of Secrets when Dobby came to the hospital wing, was that time period really going again and who was doing it again?

  117. KADEN Says:

    1) I am reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerou’s Stone. Was Percy Weasly alive when Proffeser Binns was alive?

  118. Jordan Says:

Warren – So not even your physics class has answered your troubling questions? I’ll try it out…

    1) Well, due to the recent times with Deatheaters and everything and Voldemort running a little rampage, security in the castle intensified. That incident in the first book took place during a time when such threats weren’t conceivable. With the intensified security, that is why Dumbledore and Malfoy had to think of other ways to bypass the security.

2). I guess Dumbledore is pretty old. I’m not too sure whether the books say anything about the people who used the Sorcerer’s Stone would die if it was destroyed. Maybe it’s permanent?

3). Yes. Score for the Deathly Hallows.

4). Well, it says in the books that the previous generation actually spent years getting their Animagus ability. If Harry and his friends were smarter, they probably could have secretly tried to get the same ability over the years prior to their adventure in the woods. In which case, as you put it, would have been very helpful with that whole dodging snatchers thing.

  119. Jenna Says:

For Kaden, more answers: 1.McGonnagal is the new headmistress.
    2. The Chamber was left alone and Dobby went to work at Hogwarts. 3. Malfoys mothers name is Narcissa. 4. Filch is a squib (wizard born without powers) and harbors a hatred for all Hogwarts students. He probably tends to like the slu=ytherins because they, like him, are fond ofevil things. 5. Malfoy returns to Howarts 6. Peter does die, though I wont say how because I’m not sure how much you have read. 7. That was not Nagini, it was a random snake at the zoo.

  120. Jenna Says:

Kaden- The Defense Against the Dark Arts job was jinxed. And the burrow was destroyed in the movie but in the book it was not attacked, so you could say in a sense that, yes, it was “rebuilt”. Also, Harry uses the Mauraders Map countless times once Lupin gives it back, whether its to spy on Malfoy or check to see if the coast is clear for one of his nighttime escapades. *I have not answered all of the questions because I am not sure what they all are asking or I do not know the answer*

  121. KADEN Says:

When Surius Black attacks the Fat Lady is the Fat Lady ever heard of again?

  122. Rajitha Says:

Why didn’t Voldemort try to get the whole prophecy out of either the memory Dumbledore had or by asking Trewalney? He could have easily done both.

  123. Jenna Says:

119./95.-Its stated in the first book that Nicholas Flammel and his wife were going to die without the stone to make the elixer. Dumbledore never took the elixer of life.Im sure Flammel would have had other projects to work on with Dumbledore. Dumbledore was only 115 when he died. He was just a seriously old man.

  124. Cheryl Says:

Common guys, does it really all matter? The real question is when the next movie is going out to the public. I hate when they leave you in between episodes, don’t you?

  125. sammie Says:

if harry was a horcrux then why didn’t he die when he was bitten by the basilisk? shouldn’t the bit of voldermort inside him have died then like the other horcruxes? /it might be a stupid question but I would really appreciate an answer

  126. kamiron Says:

Answer to 65 Snape killed Dumbledore using the killing curse on top of the astronomy tower but Dumbledore would have died of a curse from a horcrux. A death eater is just a follower of Voldemort.

  127. kamiron Says:

Maddieee you were right the first time

  128. Anna Sofia Says:

This is all i know I know that Voldemort dies by Harry. SPOILER ALERT harry owns the elder wand. The 7 horcruxes are Tom Riddle’s diary Marvolo Gaunt’s ring Slytherin’s Locket Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup The Diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw Nagini the Snake and Harry Potter himself… SPOILER ALERT Neville was suppose to be the chosen one instead of Harry because Neville’s birthday (in the movie) was July 30 and Harry is on July 31 Voldemort was suppose to attack Neville and he was suppose to survive until Lily and James Potter gave birth to Harry and that’s how Harry is the CHOSEN ONE . Lily Potter’s birthday (in the movie) is Janurary 30 1960 It was on the grave stone in Deathly Hallows. In the second movie te Gryffindor password was WattleBird. SO SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT EXPERTS IM ONE RIGHT HERE! SPOILER Severus Snape is DumbleDore’s spy. IM AN EXPERT AND IM PROUD OF IT!

  129. Jenna Says:

    126. Harry did not die because Fawkes’ tears healed him before he could die.

  130. ed Says:

In the Deathly hallows part one, near the end when they land on the beach and Dobby is dying. Harry asks Hermione to get something from her purse to save Dobby. Did she have her purse with her , and if so why did she do nothing?

  131. kevin Says:

will there b a nother movie of hp other than part 2

  132. KADEN Says:

if lupin hadd’nt been bitten by a werewolf, harry’s parents would of been alive, right?

  133. Jenna Says:

Part 2 is the last movie.

  134. Asha Says:

How did Dumbledore know, in the first book, that Voldemort had striked and lost? Hagrid was sent by Dumbledore to get little baby Harry, but how did Dumbledore know that Voldemort went that excact night and lost ? I remember reading it somewhere, but dont remember what it was. Pleeeease help, thanks. (sorry if my english is bad, im norwegian).

  135. Alena Says:

Harry Potter is a very long story but many enjoyed watching it. I consider this as an educational movie because there are so many things that you can learn from it if you will just make use of your imagination and emotion.

  136. ani Says:

i want to ask how Ginny opened the chamber of secret, she couldn’t speak to snakes. thanks

  137. ani Says:

why did moaning myrtle die, she was looking at basilisk in her glasses.then Hermione and a boy with camera should die too (i don’t remember his name) please answer me. thank you

  138. Betty Says:

To answer Ani: Ginny read Tom Riddle’s diary which was a horcrux. She was then possessed by Tom Riddle and he went into the chamber of secrets using Ginny. Your next question: Moaning Myrtle died because she looked directly at the basilisk, her glasses weren’t enough protection. Hermione looked at the reflection of the basilisk which protected her somewhat. Colin Creevey also looked at the basilisk through his camera lense which was enough protection so that, like Hermione, he was only petrified not killed. The film in the camera was burnt and melted however.

  139. Betty Says:

To answer Asha – Dumbledore had received a prophecy from Trelawney about the birth of “one who would have the power to vanquish the Dark Lord” and concluded it could very well have something to do with the Potters. “Dumbledore made arrangements to ensure the safety of the three; he advised them to stay hidden in their house in Godric’s Hollow, which was protected by a Fidelius Charm. However, their Secret-Keeper (believed by Dumbledore and everyone else to be Sirius Black, but was in truth Peter Pettigrew) betrayed them, resulting in James and Lily’s deaths at Voldemort’s hands.”- Harry Potter Wiki

  140. Bob Says:

Is Snape Harry’s Dad because Snape and harry’s mom have the same potronus?! And Dumbeldore talked about how harry had his hair, but her eyes?!

  141. Betty Says:

Good question Bob. Snape was not Harry’s father just because Snape’s Patronus was a doe, just like Lily Potter’s. I was reading from the Harry Potter Wiki that, “The Patronus Charm, like Animagus forms, has been said to reflect the personality or feelings of the witch or wizard.” It goes on to say, it’s not clear whether Snape’s Patronus changed over time because he loved Lily Potter or whether he just happened to have the same one. It is clear that James Potter was Harry’s father. Harry looked like him, although he had Lily Potter’s eyes. From Wikipedia: “Throughout the series, Harry is described as having his father’s perpetually untidy black hair, his mother’s bright green eyes, and a lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead.” Despite what you’ve seen in the movies, James Potter had black hair like Harry.

  142. BigL Says:

I have a question for true fans; if harry was a horcrux than how come in the COS when the basilisk bit him the horcrux didnt die? and how can an avada kedavra have killed him? if it wouldnt have worked on nagini how would it have worked on harry?

  143. Scott Says:

When a wizard dies and becomes a ghost do they keep there wand?

  144. Scott Says:

Why are Beings (Magical Creature Division) not allowed to have a wand?

  145. Scott Says:

How do you get excepted into The Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts?

  146. Bob Says:

    Are u sure?

  147. Betty Says:

  148. Betty Says:

I’ve looked for good information about The Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts and can’t find anything more than what’s on the Harry Potter Wiki: “is a wizarding school that provides education for young witches and wizards who seek a theatrical or performance career.” It’s only mentioned in The Tale of Beedle the Bard by Rowling and we know it’s in Great Britain. Sorry.

  149. Aly Says:

If the reason Harry is a parseltongue is because he himself is actaully a horcrux does this mean once the horcrux is gone that he looses that ablility?

  150. jay Says:

Why did Draco’s mom say that Harry was dead when she checked his body in the forest after the big confrontation with Voldemort? Did she really believe he was dead?

  151. Nathan Says:

If the Weasley’s are so poor then how did they get tickets to the top box in the world cup?

  152. Jenna Says:

    150. Narcissa Malfoy was worried about her son. Until Harry had been declared dead and fighting had ended, she could not go looking for Draco. Harry tells her Draco is alive so she lies so she can look for him..

  153. Daisy Says:

Who played Quiditch, had one brother and was in slytherin?

  154. Betty Says:

I agree with Jenna. Narcissa Malfoy didn’t think Harry was dead. All she cared about was her family’s safety.

  155. Ken Says:

there were a few flaws in this movie when I watched it, but I let the suspension of disbelief take me along for the ride, after all wizard movies that work are few and far between. it’s been a great ride with Harry!

  156. Betsy Says:

If anyone could clear this up for me I would be grateful. I don’t understand why Harry and the others (and anyone, for that matter) couldn’t communicate with Dumbledore after his death by seeking out his portrait in the headmasters’ office. At the very end of the book Harry speaks with him about stuff, but there is a long while before that when they really could have used his insight and help, and the subject isn’t brought up. what am I missing?

  157. Colin Says:

I took my boys to see the last Harry Potter movie when it was raining during our annual camping week in Vermont.
I enjoyed it quite a bit, much more than the first one, in which I fell asleep.

  158. Meganne Says:

In the first book when harry goes out into the forrest and sees Voldemort drinking unicorn blood. he sees the sintar and the sintar says that. It was Voldemort Drinking the blood and it meant ever lasting life that he could never die… so .. how is voldemort dead he drank the unicorn blood.
and in the deathly hallows part 1 when harry sees the doe’s patronus leading him to the sord of gryfindor was that proffesor snape or was that harry’s mother lily?

  159. Betty Says:

Meganne, I found this on the Harry Potter Wiki: “Lord Voldemort used unicorn blood to sustain his life until he could steal the Philosopher’s Stone in order to regain his true body. As he was possessing Quirinus Quirrell at the time, Quirrell drank the blood on Voldemort’s behalf.” Still working on the second part of your question!

  160. Betty Says:

Second part of your question Meganne: “Severus Snape used his Patronus to lead Harry Potter to a pool in the Forest of Dean …. where he had laid Godric Gryffindor’s Sword for Harry to retrieve.” (Harry Potter Wiki) But also, I’ve been thinking that it had to be Snape’s patronus because Harry’s mother, Lily, was dead. I don’t see any evidence that a dead wizard could still conjure up a patronus.

Why does Dumbledore’s father kill those three muggles?

  162. Jenna Says:

What was wrong with Dumebledore’s sister?

  163. Teagan Says:

Hello! Someone in my Facebook group shared this site with us so I came to check it out. I’m definitely enjoying the information. I’m bookmarking and will be tweeting this to my followers! Fantastic blog and excellent design.

  166. kitty Says:

My question is Voldermort wanted 7 horcruxes and he got 6 horcruxes and then he got harry and I’m really confused. If you get what i mean please answer my question. p.s i understand if you don’t answer my question its really confusing.

  167. Anna Says:

That is a very confusing comment. I guss Voldamort was still trying to create a seventh horocrx, but when he met his down fall with Harry he forgot.

  168. Rosamond Says:

Saved as a favorite, I really like your blog!

  169. Betty Says:

Kitty and Anna, I found this statement on the Harry Potter Wiki:
“Lord Voldemort, obsessed with immortality, went further than any wizard known to history to create seven — although he had an eight-part soul, because he accidentally created his sixth Horcrux when he failed to kill Harry Potter in 1981…”

  170. Alisa M Says:

Hey, tell the expert this blog has earned a spot on my bookmark list. :) I’ve got no question about it as I have reread the book and watched the film all over again. It’s like im breathing the air that harry potter does. LOL. :D Such addiction.

    Harry became an Auror.

  174. Daiani Says:

your website is soo good. i wish i could write like you someday. thanks for the good post.

  175. Karina Says:

why did Dumbledore put the ring on in the six year if it was a horocrx or did his hand turn black for trying to destroy it?

  176. Betty Says:

I’m having trouble approving comments successfully, but the last Harry Potter question went something like this: Did Belatrux have a patronus when she was still a good person? Or something like that.

  177. Dave's name Says:

I am a huge fan I know verything about Harry potter just one thing that bugs ms big time is how do muggle burns become a wizard

  178. Dave's name Says:

How do muggle horns become wizards

  179. Dave's name Says:

Someone asked who became headmaster after dumbledoreeee died and was answered that magonagal became headmaster Whitchurch is true but then the ministry gets taken over by lord voldemort (though cleverly he does not become minister himeselfe ) and then later he makes Severus shape (who voldemort thinks is a death eater but is not actually) the head master. I just had to say that because I know the Harry potter back to front and it just buged me badly

  180. Flora Says:

My question is (well its more of a random theory)is that when lupin the guy who got bit by a werewolf and is now a werewolf and turns into a wolf every full moon and taught Harry defence against the dark arts and how to do a patrons Whitchurch comes of as a stag and was freinds whith seriouse black who people think was a mas murderer but again got betrayed by Peter pedigree and taken to askaben then got free and was on the run until he died when people realised he was goog man and also harry dad, james pottergot betrayed by the guy peter pedigree who snitched to voldemort who was trying to kill Harry because of profacy so instead he died ans so did Lilly Harry mum . We’re well that guy you know he marry Tonks at the end of book six and the in book seven he mentioned to harry that he was having a baby whith Tonks and he wanted to go whith Harry and hermiony and Ron who were trying to destroy horkrukes. Well if as lupin said he becomes a wolf kid well my theory is that he might become half wolf and transform at half moon I know it’s weird but I wanna get a second a pinion ps sorry about big description so you know who I’m talking about incase there’s another lupin at the end of book 7 I’m only at the place were they go to the castle and get basilisk tooth and ya know what the movies are like they probably missed it out

  181. Betty Says:

Someone asked recently: what is Harry’s favorite color? I would guess red.. for Gryffindor. What do you think? (I’m sorry, though, I deleted your comment by mistake!)

  182. mallory Says:

    what is Harry’s favorite flower?

  183. Betty Says:

Maybe mistletoe? Cho kissed Harry standing under a mistletoe. :)
