English as a Second Language (ESL)

For adults wanting to improve their workplace and every day English language skills. Classes provide instruction in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Registration is required. AARP Tax-Aide

Nonprofit Workshop - Education and Training Resources

GED / HiSET / TASC classes

Where: Penrose Library - 20 North Cascade at Pine Room

This class will help adults without a high school diploma prepare to take the GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency exams. Registration is required. Tai Chi

When: Thursday, March 30, 2017 - 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Where: Penrose Library - 20 North Cascade at Penrose Carnegie Reading Room

Join Master Tanisha and learn the fundamentals of Tai Chi in this free, hour long class.

Students will learn the basics of posture, strength, relaxation, movement and breathing. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

Master Tanisha is a 5th-degree Kung Fu Master and has 20 years of experience teaching Tai Chi.

Sand Creek Book Club, Memory Man by David Baldacci

Spanish Conversation Group

This is an informal Spanish conversation group, including intermediate-advanced students and native speakers. It is not an instructional time and no English is spoken during the meetings. It is an opportunity to enjoy and practice speaking and learn casually from more experienced speakers. The group welcomes new participants as well as ideas for activities or topics of discussion. We meet every Thursday from 1:30-3 pm.

Genealogy 101: Organization

Discovering your ancestral past can be an awesome adventure. But where do you start? As with any successful journey one must start with preparation. Come gather the necessary equipment for this exciting adventure. Organization, Forms, and Standards, Personal Database Software, Source Analysis, Citing Sources, Taking Notes, Home and Family Sources, Interviewing and Correspondence all will be discussed so that you can take those first steps confidently into your ancestral past.

Drawing and Painting Creativity Group

Bring your creativity to this monthly gathering. Bring whatever project you are working on and work in a group setting. Local artist and instructor Deb Ross will be on hand to help inspire. Supplies will not be provided. Registration is not required.

AARP Drive Smart

Any aged person may attend, but the Insurance Discount only applies to those 55 years old and above and all persons shown on the insurance contract must take the class.
Court Directed persons (those who need a class to regain a driver’s license that the Court has held) are welcomed. Our Instructors are authorized to sign off related court documents.
The class lasts 4 hours
Class sign-in begins 15 minutes prior to the class start time.
Pre-class reservations are requested, but we may accept a few walk-ins, space and materials limited.

Exploring Mindfulness, Discovering Delight Meditation Class

MAKE @ East Open Hours

When: Thursday, March 30, 2017 - 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

During Open Hours MAKE @ East is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a trained PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

45 minute class with Philip Selva, Certified Tai Chi Instructor. For first-timers: You must take the Tai Chi Basics course.
